In the series 'Portraits with Fans', Sarah Maple made images of herself meeting famous male artists - but instead of her being excited to meet them, they're excited to meet artist Maple. A work about the power dynamic in the art world. Images include Damien Hirst, Grayson Perry, Matthew Barney, The Chapman Brothers, Anish Kapoor and many more. In much of her work I want to subvert the powerplay in the artworld which still seems very white and male. Women are still very behind in museum collections, gallery representation and auction sales, which needs to change.
