With 'Labour of Love' Sarah Maple makes an urgent statement about motherhood, unpaid work and the work feminism still has to do.
In 'Labour of Love' Maple recorded the number of times her newborn baby was fed over three months - in total 650 times. She then screen printed 650 pictures of herself and her baby and hand finished each one to represent a feed. In each image the baby remains intact but Maple is obscured in a number of ways; from collage to paint to discarded breast pads. Each image moves between gentle, funny, angry and frustrated.
Sarah has created a new series representing one week of feeds, especially for this exhibition. This series ‘One week' is for sale as individuals pieces. The installation of the first three months remains intact.

NL // Sarah Maple maakt met ‘Labour of Love’ een urgent statement over het moederschap, onbetaalde arbeid en het werk dat het feminisme nog te doen heeft.
Voor ‘Labour of Love’ legde Maple haar moederschap vast; ze maakte een foto van zichzelf met haar baby en noteerde elke voeding die ze gaf over een periode van drie maanden. Dit blijken 650 voedingen te zijn. Het werk van de voedingen is vertaald naar 650 zeefdrukken van de foto van Maple en de baby. Daarna is elke zeefdruk uniek bewerkt, oscillerend tussen zachtaardig, grappig, boos en gefrustreerd.
Speciaal voor deze tentoonstelling heeft Sarah een nieuwe serie gemaakt die een week voedingen vertegenwoordigt. Deze serie 'One week' is per stuk te koop. De installatie van de eerste drie maanden blijft intact.
