Hazel Ang draws inspiration from Nature and asian folklore. Her artistic expression is a fusion of diverse cultural, literary, and spiritual influences stemming from her mixed heritage and upbringing in Canada. She employs a diverse range of painting and drawing mediums, but her current focus lies in color pencils on her preferred substrate, wood. Hazel has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, including recent shows at the Nucleus Gallery in Portland and the Outré Gallery in Melbourne. She lives in Munich, Germany.

This hexagonal colour pencil painting depicts a robin with a dramatic, expressive mask, reminiscent of Chinese opera, perched on a branch. A small figure wearing a jade Taotie mask sits beside it. Bamboo leaves hang, symbolizing flexibility, endurance, and the ability to withstand adversity, as well as modesty and openness to learning.
