Pilgrim badges, These reference the metal badges sold as souvenirs to late medieval pilgrims, usually sold around Catholic shrines to pilgrims following a long pilgrim trail. However, many secular and lewd examples of the badges survive, that were obviously just sold as amulets for good luck in love or perhaps joke gifts.
I made my pilgrim badges based loosely on the medieval myth of Albina and her sisters, Syrian princesses who, after killing their husbands, set sail and founded Albion (Britain). I like the meaning of the badges to be interpreted by the viewer, in the same way that we have to interpret the meaning of the symbols on the original medieval badges.
The badges are cast in bronze and all unique pieces.
