XIII. De Dood

De dertiende tarotkaart heeft geen naam, maar staat bekend als de Doodskaart. De kaart herinnert ons eraan dat de dood voor iedereen komt, ongeacht status, leeftijd of rijkdom. Het symboliseert transformatie, radicale eliminatie en wedergeboorte. De dood eist boven alles een overgang, het dwingt verandering en vernieuwing af en vernietigt om te herbouwen. De tijd heeft aan de touwen geknaagd die de ledematen van de gehangene vasthielden.

Nu liggen ze verspreid over de grond in verschillende staat van verval. Het hoofd van het onthoofde kluizenaar is vergaan. Zelfs nu nog kijkt de doodskop in de richting van de vleesloze hand die aan de voet van de boom ligt, nog steeds krampachtig vasthoudend aan het mobiele apparaat, zelfs in de dood.

XIII. Death

The thirteenth card in the tarot deck is the only unnamed card though it has come to be known as the Death card. The card reminds us that death comes to all, irrespective of status, age or wealth. It symbolises transformation, radical elimination and rebirth. Death forces change and renewal and destroys in order to rebuild. As we travel into this card the tree is ever-present. Time has eaten away at the ropes which held the limbs of the hanging man and now they lay strewn about the ground in various states of decay. The decapitated head of the Hermit has decayed to reveal the skull beneath, which even so looks on in the direction of the fleshless hand that lies at the base of the tree, still clutching the mobile device even in death.
