Donoghue onderzoekt in dit nieuwe doorlopende project aan de hand van actuele thema's zoals macht, rijkdom en kolonisatie van ‘de ruimte’ de veranderende boodschappen en veranderlijke vormen. De inspiratie komt voort uit de symbolische kracht van de universele en tijdloze archetypen van tarot. Gebruikmakend van oude mythen, voorouderlijke geschiedenissen en de natuurlijke wereld, stelt Donoghue je in staat om je toekomst te voorspellen, je heden opnieuw te vertellen en je verleden te deconstrueren. Donoghue en KochxBos Gallery werken zo’n 14 jaar samen. Het werk kenmerkt zich door verhalen en mythen te veranderen naar Donoghue’s eigen werkelijkheid. Door het onderwerp op een inktzwarte achtergrond te plaatsten lijkt het geheel bijna te zweven. Meryl werkt uitsluitend op een analoge en historische manier om haar beeld te verkrijgen. Alles wat je ziet is ‘analoog’ verzameld; takken, vogels, de mensen, al deze losse beelden worden uiteindelijk digitaal tot het eindwerk gecomponeerd. Naast deze werken in de ‘typische Donoghue-stijl’ zijn er ook cyanotypes te zien van verschillende onderdelen uit de verhalen. De cyanotype techniek is een ambachtelijke, vroege vorm van fotografie. Voor de expositie geven we een bijzondere magazine-catalogus uit met de ideeën en achtergronden van de werken, inclusief inspirerende pagina's uit het schetsboek van de kunstenaar. Utilizing ancient myths, ancestral histories, and the natural world, Donoghue enables you to predict your future, retell your present, and deconstruct your past.
Donoghue and KochxBos Gallery have been collaborating for about 14 years. The work is characterized by transforming stories and myths into Donoghue's own surreal reality. By placing the subject on an inky black background, the subject seems to almost float. Meryl works exclusively in an analog and historical way to obtain her image. Everything you see is 'analog' collected; branches, birds, people, all these separate images are ultimately digitally composed into the final artwork. In addition to these works in the 'typical Donoghue style,' cyanotypes of various elements from the stories are also on display. The cyanotype technique is an alternative form of early photography. For the exhibition, we are releasing a special magazine-catalog with the ideas and backgrounds of the works, including inspiring pages from the artist's sketchbook.
