Ray Caesar - A Perfectly Natural Biological Variation
In 2005 opende KochxBos Gallery haar deuren met een soloshow van de Britse, in Canada wonende, kunstenaar Ray Caesar. Sindsdien is de galerie de Europese vertegenwoordiger van de populaire Caesar. Ray Caesar is de afgelopen jaren uitgegroeid tot een wereldwijd fenomeen.
Zijn werk wordt verzameld door de Hearst Family, Riccardo Tisci van Givenchy, Madonna, het Bristol Museum, en zijn werk is geselecteerd door Museum of Modern Art en Guggenheim, New York.
BRILJANTE INNERLIJKE WERELDEN
Caesar is de pionierskunstenaar in de digitale techniek. Hij maakt gebruik van het 3D animatieprogramma Maya, waarbij modellen gemaakt worden voor animatie-films en computergames. De uitwerking van de beelden en details gaan verder dan de 2D wereld die wij zien. Een virtuele wereld waar Caesar kan rondlopen, zijn figuren van alle zijden te zien zijn en in laatjes persoonlijke brieven of schatten bewaard liggen, en ook geopend kunnen worden. De werken in de galerie kunnen het beste omschreven worden als weergaves van deze fascinerende en prachtig complexe wereld.
WERELDWIJD GEZIEN
Ray Caesar wordt beschouwd als één van de belangrijkste vertegenwoordigers van het popsurrealisme, een stroming die eind jaren ‘70 rond Los Angeles is ontstaan. Hij geeft een persoonlijke interpretatie aan de stroming door zijn figuren in Victoriaanse en Rococo-achtige sfeer te plaatsen met sprookjesachtige elementen. Caesar is origineel, zijn denken is briljant en hij heeft het talent om zijn innerlijke wereld te onthullen in woorden en zeker in beeld.
KINDERZIEKENHUIS
Caesar heeft vaak visioenen, hij droomt bewust en brengt gevoelens en emoties uit die lucide dromen, die moeilijk onder woorden zijn te brengen, in beeld. Een terugkerend thema in zijn dromen is het kinderziekenhuis waar hij van 1980 tot 1997 werkte als fotograaf.
DE 'TRANSGENDER' VLUCHTROUTE
In het werk van Ray Caesar zien we veelal een engelachtig, wit figuur, met rode lippen vaak in barokstijl gekleed en omgeven met bijzondere voorwerpen. Het figuur is zijn archetype, hierin verwerkt hij het collectieve onderbewustzijn van de mens. Ze vertegenwoordigen de balans tussen het mannelijke en vrouwelijke en spirituele groei.
INSEKT- EN TENTAKEL METAFOREN
Terugkerend in veel van zijn werken zijn insecten, zoals ook te zien in het nieuwe werk ‘Charon’. De insecten zijn vaak een metafoor voor de onbewuste gedachten die ons doordringen en het onzichtbare leven om ons heen.

Ray Caesar - A Perfectly Natural Biological Variation
In 2005, KochxBos Gallery opened its doors with a solo show of British artist Ray Caesar, who resides in Canada. Since then, the gallery has been the European representative of the popular Caesar. Ray Caesar has grown into a worldwide phenomenon over the years. His work is collected by the Hearst Family, Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy, Madonna, the Bristol Museum, and his work has been selected by the Museum of Modern Art and Guggenheim, New York.
BRILLIANT INNER WORLDS
Caesar is a pioneer artist in digital technology. He uses the 3D animation program Maya, where models are created for animated films and computer games. The elaboration of the images and details go beyond the 2D world we see. A virtual world where Caesar can walk around, his figures can be seen from all sides, and personal letters or treasures are kept in drawers and can also be opened. The works in the gallery can best be described as representations of this fascinating and beautifully complex world.
WORLDWIDE RECOGNITION
Ray Caesar is considered one of the most important representatives of pop surrealism, a movement that originated in the late ‘70s around Los Angeles.
He gives a personal interpretation to the movement by placing his figures in a Victorian and Rococo-like atmosphere with fairytale elements. Caesar is original, his thinking is brilliant, and he has the talent to reveal his inner world in words and certainly in images.
CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
Caesar often has visions, he dreams consciously, and brings feelings and emotions from those lucid dreams, which are difficult to put into words, into the image. A recurring theme in his dreams is the children’s hospital where he worked as a photographer from 1980 to 1997.
THE ‘TRANSGENDER’ ESCAPE ROUTE
In Ray Caesar’s work, we often see an angelic white figure, with red lips, often dressed in baroque style and surrounded by special objects. The figure is his archetype, in which he processes the collective subconscious of mankind. They represent the balance between the male and female and spiritual growth.
INSECT AND TENTACLE METAPHORS
Recurring in many of his works are insects, as can also be seen in the new work ‘Charon’. The insects are often a metaphor for the unconscious thoughts that penetrate us and the invisible life around us.
