"Truth, Justice, Beauty, and Respect." Op de beker met typisch jaren ‘60 Wedgwood print staan deze vier woorden centraal. Gemaakt door de People’s Republic of Stokes Croft (PRSC), een activistische kunstenaarsgemeenschap uit Bristol die voor de Wintershow samenwerkt met de Amsterdamse KochxBos Gallery. Tijdens de Wintershow introduceert People's Republic hun servies: vintage-bloemen en stevige statements die de wereld in beweging houden. Denk aan een 50-tal unieke ‘statement servies stukken’: beelden, borden, schalen, bekers en theepotten met teksten als “The first Pride was a Riot” van Chloe Slater en "We Make Our Own Future" van Rose Vickers. Andere ontwerpers zijn Bev Milward, Scot Burgoyne, Chris Chalkley, Kay Su, Laura Kesseler, Maryem Meddeb, Clare Andrews, Jamie Gillman, Mark Cranfield, Micha Libert en Katy Bauer. Wintershow

De liefde voor de Peoples’s Republic is ontstaan in 2015, toen Koch en Bos de stad Bristol bezochten voor Dismaland, de expositie van Banksy. Peoples’s Republic is een community die zorg draagt voor de wijk Stokes Croft in Bristol. Dat doen ze onder andere via het verkopen van servies (China), een boekhandel en zorg voor daklozen. De oprichter Chris Chalkley, in de jaren '90 een marketeer in keramiek en glas, bevond zich in een unieke positie toen grote pottenbakkerijen failliet gingen - om ovens, apparatuur en ongebruikte (design)transfers te redden. Samen met kunstenaars en ontwerpers ging hij aan de slag om daarmee een duurzame keramiek werkplaats te starten in de wijk Stokes Croft. Hans Bos en Esther Koch proberen alert te zijn op de bewegingen in de samenleving en de galerie kun je zien als een goede plek om dit naar buiten te brengen. Dit is zo’n moment. We geloven in de People’s Republic energie en bieden ze graag de ruimte. Naast de lancering van het servies is het ook de opening van de Wintershow met geselecteerde werken van onder andere Martine Johanna, Meryl Donoghue, Sarah Maple, Dadara, Zoé Byland en Claire Partington. Onder het genot van Hot cocoa & Cointreau of bubbels kun je genieten van een mooie selectie schilderijen, zeefdrukken, kunstboeken en mooie kaarten, en vind je bijzondere kado voor de feestdagen.

"Truth, Justice, Beauty, and Respect." These four words take center stage on the cup with a typical 1960s Wedgwood print. During the Winter Show, People's Republic introduces their tableware: vintage flowers and bold statements that keep the world in motion. Think of around 50 unique "statement tableware and ceramics pieces": sculptures, plates, cups and teapots with texts like "The first Pride was a Riot" by Chloe Slater and "We Make Our Own Future" by Rose Vickers. How it all came about
The love for the People's Republic began in 2015 when Koch and Bos visited the city of Bristol for Dismaland, Banksy's exhibition. The People's Republic is a community that takes care of the Stokes Croft neighborhood in Bristol, including selling tableware (China), running a bookstore, and helping the homeless. Founder Chris Chalkley, a ceramics and glass marketeer, found himself in a unique position in the 1990s when major pottery businesses went bankrupt to save kilns, equipment, and unused (design) transfers. Together with artists and designers, he embarked on creating a sustainable ceramics workshop for the community. Hans Bos and Esther Koch strive to stay attuned to societal movements, and the gallery serves as a platform to bring them to the forefront. This is one of those moments. We believe in the energy of the People's Republic and are delighted to provide them with the space. In addition to the tableware launch, it's also the opening of the Winter Show featuring selected works by artists such as Martine Johanna, Meryl Donoghue, Ciou, Sarah Maple, Dadara, Zoé Byland, and Claire Partington.
