The People's Republic of Stokes Croft

The love for the People's Republic began in 2015 when Koch and Bos visited the city of Bristol for Banksy's Dismaland* exhibition. PRSC is a community that takes care of the Stokes Croft neighborhood in Bristol. They do this through selling tableware (China), running a library, and providing support to the homeless. Founder Chris Chalkley found himself in a unique position in the 1990s when major pottery businesses were going bankrupt. He was a marketing professional in ceramics and glass and was able to save the ovens, equipment, and unused (design) transfers. Together with artists and designers, he embarked on starting a sustainable ceramic workshop for the community. This workshop is now being used to raise awareness and finance PRSC's various other activities. With the designer-artists: Bev Milward, Laura Kessels, Scot Burgoyne, Chris Chalkley, Kay Su, Chloe Slater, Maryem Meddeb, Clare Andrews, Jamie Gillman, Rose Vickers and Mark Cranfield.

De liefde voor de Peoples’s Republic is ontstaan in 2015, toen Koch en Bos de stad Bristol bezochten voor de Dismaland* expositie van Banksy. PRSC is een community die zorg draagt voor de buurt Stokes Croft in Bristol. Dat doen ze via het verkopen van servies (China), een bibliotheek en zorg voor daklozen. De oprichter Chris Chalkley bevond zich in de jaren ’90, toen grote pottenbakkerijen failliet gingen, in een unieke positie (hij was marketeer in keramiek en glas) om de ovens, apparatuur en de ongebruikte (design)transfers te redden. Samen met kunstenaars, ontwerpers en ging hij aan de slag om voor de buurt een duurzame keramiek werkplaats te starten. Deze wordt nu ingezet om de maatschappij bewust te maken alle andere bezigheden van PRSC te faciliteren en bekostigen. Met de ontwerpers/kunstenaars Bev Milward, Laura Kessels, Scot Burgoyne, Chris Chalkley, Kay Su, Chloe Slater, Maryem Meddeb, Clare Andrews, Jamie Gillman, Rose Vickers and Mark Cranfield.
