Esther Koch and Hans Bos have always had their eye on the future. Starting their gallery 15 years ago with a solo show by the talented new artist Ray Caesar might have been a bold move for others, for KochxBos it felt as the logical step forward. And that was only the beginning. Always keen for new talent, new ideas and new experiences, they have brought together an impressive circle of forward thinking artists and curated a series of spectaculair, off-kilter events over the past 15 years. When KochxBos open an exhibition, the only thing you can expect is the unexpected. Openings are therefore truly happenings, with either loud live music, engaging VR-experiences or personal video conversations with overseas artists. It is simply in the galleries blood to keep the character of their shows evolving, always inviting new talent and never afraid to explore new concepts, like the Museumplein guerilla intervention over by Dadara during the Covid lockdown or the spectaculair Ciou curated theme show Popland – Open borders for Pop Surrealism last October. Although KochxBos is strongly rooted in the Amsterdam Jordaan neighbourhood, the gallery has a large global fanbase and sells and ships all over the world. Exploring new possibilities to spread the word, KochxBos Publishers was founded in 2014, covering their artists' work in diligently designed hard cover books and the recent pre launch of KochxBos Podcast Station hosting a series of intriguing and insightfull podcasts on their artists. True to character, KochxBos celebrate their 15th anniversary with someting new. ‘Wide Awake’ is a theme based group show, with some of the artist inviting fresh creative blood. It's hard not to look forward to a show including new work by Claire Partington, Dadara, Bethany de Forest, Ray Ceasar and the official launch of KochxBos Station with a podcast covering the highlights of 15 years KochxBos. Due to the Covid-19 situation, the opening will be less spectaculair than planned. On the upside, the recently invented time slot opening gives you the chance to be one of the first to see the new work up close without working yourself around the crowd - or a live band. Secondly, it provides you with the possibility to congratulate Esther and Hans with their jubilee in person. You might even ask them the inevitable question: What's next? Wide Awake -> What's next?

The exhibition can be seen until Saturday 23 January, safe to visit according to the prevailing rivm guidelines without an appointment during regular opening hours.

The gallery tries to astonish its audience with different and surprising views on who we are as human beings. To name a few, Claire Partington shows historical ceramic figures giving intelligent comments on our time, while Feminist activist Maple brings us an sometimes provoking insights on different cultures. The artist Dadara gives us different perspectives on social media and our world while Michel Houellebecq's Jed Martin makes us believe that describing art can be even more powerful as the visual art itself.
